Weird, Strange and Unusual News From The Last Week (August 9th-15th 2010)

Lottery Miscalculation

A Lottery winner this week thought she'd won a mere £70. It turns out that she has actually won £1.1 million. She was Stacey Bywater, 18, thought she'd won a bit of extra money for her summer holidays, but upon further examination realised that she'd actually got six numbers and had won the jackpot. Stacey will continue to work and will use the money to support herself and her family and to give them all a comfortable life.

Emergency Escape

A male air hostess quit his job this week, in a rather unusual fashion. Steven Slater got in an argument with a passenger who accidentally hit him on the head with some luggage. He requested an apology over the planes loudspeaker system, and then quit his job, deploying the emergency slide during the process so that he could get off the plane. Passengers could not quite believe what had happened. Of course, the plane was already on the ground, otherwise that WOULD have been ridiculous.

Gaming Gorilla

A Gorilla in a zoo in San Francisco took up gaming this week! To be specific, he took an interest in the Nintendo DS. A boy dropped his nintendo portable games console into the Gorilla's enclosure, and he picked it up and appeared to be playing with it. A younger ape tried to take the device away from him but the Gorilla was having none of it and kept it to himself. Eventually the zoo keepers managed to distract the animal with an apple, and returned the console to it's rightful owner.

Bullet Dodger

A 23 year old, Angel Alvarez, has been shot 21 times by police after he shot a man at a party in New York...and lived! The dispute was over a woman, and police drew their weapons after Alvarez shot Luis Soto, 21. Alvarez is currently in hospital and is in a critical condition, but his sister says he is expected to survive.

Causing a Scene...or should that be spectacle?

A prison inmate has swallow another prisoners glasses. The man was annoyed because he was not allowed to talk to the chaplain. He managed to take down both lenses and some of the metal frame. He was taken to hospital but later was returned to the prison after doctors gave him the all clear. Maybe this guy shouldn't be in jail...perhaps some kind of circus?
